Toyota issues new recall

Toyota Motor Corp. launched a major new recall Thursday, saying a mechanical problem could cause the gas pedals to stick and cause unwanted acceleration in 2.3 million of its vehicles, including recent models of its popular Camry and Corolla sedans.

Most of the vehicles targeted by the new recall were also included in a separate recall of 4.3 million vehicles late last year involving floor mats that could jam the accelerator pedal open.

Toyota to Recall Four Million Vehicles…

JAPAN’S Toyota Motor is planning to recall about four million vehicles in the United States to fix a potential problem affecting their accelerator gas pedals.

toyota recall gas pedalThe recall was due to a risk that loose driver-side floor mats could slip forward and jam the pedals, Kyodo news agency said, quoting sources close to the matter.

Ford carried out this same recall in 2001 on its Explorers. It just goes to show, people do not learn from history, Toyota would have had some record of this happening to Ford. Ford fixed their problem in 2001 by installing a clip to the mats, no doubt Toyota will do the same.

Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, was expected to provide more details today, The Associated Press reported.

Toyota recall: 3.8 million cars

Toyota recallNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Toyota issued a safety recall for 3.8 million Lexus and Toyota cars because of potentially deadly floor mats.

In statements released Tuesday, the world’s largest automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned drivers to remove the mats or risk a forced-down accelerator pedal that could lead to a fatal crash.

The seven models being recalled could potentially have removable mats that would interfere with the pedal and cause it to stick.
