November 13, 2009 – 7:17 am | by wisnuaji

School Closings in Virginia came as Storm Ida made several rivers to flood. Authorities have already warned the resident to be watchful.

Flood watch is in effect for Dan River as a result of Tropical Storm Ida. The roads of the area are already under water. Although officials have declared that no school building is under the direct threat, the Route 501 has been completely shut down. The Riverdale area is especially at risk, as the water level is rising and the residents and business owners are keeping an eye on the water levels.

In Danville the situation is deteriorating at faster pace and authorities have started preparing for the flooding. Several areas have already been affected. Signposts are in place to warn public about the flooded streets. People have already been advised to remain in their homes.

Salem is perhaps the most affected area as the rain fall has already disrupted many areas. As Roanoke River flooded, nearby population has been shifted to safer places until the waters recede.

As the river swelled Roanoke Memorial Hospital came under the threat of being flooded. Hospital has prepared for any emergency situation.

Excessive rain fall in Lynchburg has made Blackwater creek to flood.

The situation is no different for Staunton River in Altavista. The waters have already risen to the levels never before seen by the residents and the forecast is that the waters would rise further.

The residents in Franklin County faced power outages. Though the electricity has been restored the area is also under the watch.
