McDaniels drops F Bomb during the game
November 27, 2009 – 4:46 pm | by wisnuajiJosh McDaniels has likely dropped many f-bombs lately, given the Denver Broncos’ struggles. But one Josh McDaniels f-bomb was not only caught by the NFL Network last night, it was replayed on tape. McDaniels let loose with the f-bomb in the first quarter, after the Broncos were held to a field goal for the second time against the Giants. The Josh McDaniels’ f-bomb wasn’t broadcast live, yet when the NFL Network showed the replay, they somehow failed to bleep it.
The NFL Network isn’t exactly popular with fans, at least when they broadcast games. But failing to catch Josh McDaniels’ f-bomb, even when they had a chance to bleep it, only makes them more of a laughingstock.
The context of McDaniels’ cursing came after a series of bad mistakes by the Broncos. Denver looked ready to go up 10-0 on the Giants in the first quarter, but after getting to first-and-goal, three penalties killed the drive. The Broncos only went up 6-0, and fans were starting to worry about a fifth straight loss.
McDaniels went off on his team for making so many big mistakes, in a pre-recorded rant that included the f-bomb. When the NFL Network replayed the clip, they didn’t even take the time to bleep the f word, even though they had ample opportunity to. Immediately, the NFL Network announcers apologized for it, showing more quick thinking than the people in their editing room.
Even McDaniels took a shot at the network after he found out what happened. But otherwise, he was in a much better mood, for the first time in a month, as the Broncos blew out the Giants 26-6. Although McDaniels has been blamed in part for the Broncos’ recent downfall, most of the blame in this instance falls on the NFL Network.
Since debuting in 2006, the network has had pretty bad pr. Disputes with Comcast, and the fact that not everyone had access to the channel, got things off to a bad start. Even now, the network is mocked for bad broadcasting and games. This year alone, the NFL Network has shown two games between sub .500 teams, and one blowout between teams that have tanked after hot starts.
