Happy Hanukkah

What is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah is an 8 day Jewish holiday. To commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem during the period of the Maccabean Revolt, 2nd Century BC. Hanukkah means to dedicate.
According to Hebrew calendar, Hanukkah starts on the 25th day of Kislev. According to the Gregorian calendar, Hanukkah may occur from late November to late December.
Happy Hanukkah traditions include the playing of Dreidel. The dreidel is a four sided spinning top with each side imprinted with a Hebrew letter which are a short form for A great miracle happened here. It refers to the miracle of oil that took place in the Beit Hamikdash.
Another happy Hannukah practive for children is gelt which is Yiddish for money. The practice started in the 17th century and grandparents give real money or chocolate coins to their grandchildren.
The last day of Hanukkah is called Zot Hanukkah.
The Happy Hannukah songs include, “Chanukah, Oh Chanukah” and “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel”.
